Hard To Grow Areas

Question

I have a back yard that will not grow grass. I have laid sod and grass seeds. There’s quite a bit of shade back there. What is a good kind of grass to grow in an area like that?

  1. The easiest grass to grow in shaded areas is Fescue; but before you try to sow seed on the entire lawn, purchase one pound of seed first and spread it in the areas you have had the least luck. (This way you can determine if it is just too shady for grass all together.) If the seeds germinate and the grass gets nice and thick, then I would say you have found what you are looking for. If not, then I would consider a different approach such as Mondo or Dwarf Mondo grass (both are evergreen and require no mowing).
